The screen crackles to life with an image of the late king.
"Oh dear oh dear, that's unfortunate. And it looks like some of your are approaching knowledge you shouldn't."
"Well, let's bring the killer to justice!"

Use this thread to debate the murder of Kaede. Use the colored truth system please. Remember if you are not the murderer, no lying using purple.

"Let's begin again by laying out what we know about the case:"
"1. Kaede's body was found in the Deck 3 Workshop, viciously attacked. Her head was split open, and her arm was nearly torn apart. The nearby cleaver seems to match not only the age of the wounds but also the splatter pattern that would have been created with the type of wounds she sustained, thus, we can safely assume this was the weapon used. It was obtained from the Deck 3 Kitchens as well. Strangely enough, a majority of the blood splattered in a cone behind Kaede, with some marking it in front of her and onto the cleaver. However, a big question I have yet to answer is how the murderer was able to leave the room without trailing blood or making footprints. Thus, the killer either had something to catch the blood, such as a curtain, blanket, or an apron, or they were able to clean themselves off enough to leave the scene without leaving a trail."
"2. The murder had to have taken place within the last two days. Body announcements are limited to around 24 hours following the murder, and judging from the age of the body, it was likely close to this limit. The body was in rigor mortis and the blood had already dried significantly. According to Hu Tao's testimony, she found the body initially around 8:41PM UCT on 7/2, thus, the murder most likely took place on 7/1."
"3. Judging by who contributed to the body announcement, Hu Tao and Teng Bei both saw the body before the announcement was made. This means not only that the third contributor is the killer in question, but that Hu Tao and Teng Bei were either not involved with the murder, or at most were accomplices and did not stick around for Kaede's brutal execution."
"4. The route for our killer would be fairly simple. With a majority of the guards off the ship, the killer could have easily committed the murder without risking people interrupting. The killer likely traveled to Deck 3, obtained a cleaver from the Deck 3 kitchen, hid out in the Workshop, and attacked their unsuspecting their victim. The cleaver was left in the Workshop, and the killer would have left after either cleaning off or disposing of their garb. I'm currently proposing that this happened sometime the evening of 7/1."
"With this in mind, the question I would like to bring up is how the killer avoided getting soiled with blood and where this item would have been obtained."

"Something we should keep in mind is that the swamp will curse those who answer wrongly, or those around them. This curse forces the target to desire death and kill within the next few days. Of course this could be unrelated to the murder at hand, but the ones I saw around the swamp are Ynes, Kaede, KoD, Prince Tubeppa, and Otoshin."

" When was this curse applied, and approximately what is its duration? This information could be important for ruling in specific people, as they'd be more likely to commit murder or be forced to do so than others who weren't cursed." "With this in mind, we can probably rule out a fair number of those individuals, judging by where they were at the time. Out of this list, only a few could have possibly committed the murder since they were on the boat during the timeframe of the murder. Perhaps we could bring in statements from some of these individuals about what they were doing on 7/1 and 7/2 to get a better idea of our suspect list?"

"Kaede... Is this... my fault..? Have I.. failed you? Is this my fault? Ahhh..."
"I-I can help... I believe that the only people who had an opportunity to do this murder would be Otoshin, Fifth Prince Tubeppa, Count Chocula and First Prince Benji, including both his guards. I would like to request... Extensive alibi from these people... at the date of 1st of July. Teng Bei and Hu Tao could have been candidates as well... but I believe that unless we have accomplices invovlved... it should be... safe to say that these people could not have killed Kaede... Based on the Body Discovery Announcement."
"The... curse that Hu Tao mentions... has happened twice with witnesses involved... The first time was at the Shrine of Wisdom. The involved people were... Teng Bei, Kaede and me... The second time was... at the Shrine of Compassion. Where the involved people are Kaede, Hu Tao, Ynes and Prince Tubeppa. I managed to leave before Kaede... did what she did... She told me everything after..."
"It may be possible that Teng Bei, Prince Tubeppa and Otoshin carry the curse without anyone having witnessed such... But that is... more of a possibility... than accusation. Perhaps alibi could clear this up..."

The curse applies when one fails a trial at one of the swamp shrines or the den, although succeeding at another would protect you from an instance of the curse. It forces the one cursed to murder within the next 2-3 days, so this murder aligns with when the first ones to set off into the swamp would need to find a victim."

It forces the one cursed to murder within the next 2-3 days, so this murder aligns with when the first ones to set off into the swamp would need to find a victim." "Interesting. Thank you, Hu Tao. If that's the case, then we can continue with our current line of questioning. "Running through our list of prospective curse-ees: I haven't seen Otoshin or Prince Tubeppa for a while, likely because they had been exploring the new continent. I'm not entirely convinced either of those individuals were involved with this murder for this particular reason, however we would need definitive testimonials from both individuals to rule them out."
"During investigation, I did speak with Prince Benjamin about him and his guards' whereabouts. There wasn't a specific timeframe established with this account, but he did mention that Vinny and Teng Bei had a physical fight in the Deck 2 commons, explaining the dried bit of blood on the floor. When I spoke with the Prince, both he and Vinny were in the infirmary, getting his wounds treated.""As for Ynes, I'm particularly suspicious of her given her whereabouts and habits as of late. When I spoke with Prince Benjamin, she wasn't with him, which struck me as odd since she keeps such detailed and meticulous notes about her Prince's activities. Of course, one such absence coinciding with the timeframe of the murder alone is not enough to justify suspicion. However, she left Deck 2 on 6/25. This is important because she does not have an alibi from her team right before the day the murder would have taken place (7/1). It would have been incredibly easy for her to sneak down to Deck 3 and waited for a victim to walk into her crosshairs, and if no such individual arrived, she could easily return the cleaver and resume her normal activities without consequence. The only time that she would have an alibi was when she was with her team again to watch Vinny and Teng Bei fight in the Deck 2 commons, however, I must request a definitive time that this fight took place in order to construct a better idea of her whereabouts.""Having spoken with her during investigation as well, she claims that she didn't see anyone entering or leaving Deck 3 during the last two days, however, I'd like to see if she has a more detailed account of events that may help us in ruling her out."

"Seeing as I had been at the swamp for a while, my alibi might be of some use. I was heading to the swamp when Ynes stopped us for a conversation at the landing zone. We decided to enter the swamp together and ended up at the shrine of compassion. Kaede, KoD, and Tubeppa had gotten there before us. KoD leaves before Kaede goes around smacking all the people in cages and getting an unknown target cursed. Ynes decides she doesn't want to be here anymore and leaves after another talk. I met Tubeppa and Otoshin a few times while wandering through the rest of the swamp. Having narrowly avoided getting cursed myself, I headed back to the ship and had another conversation with Ynes in the guest commons. Vinny was there, although I cannot remember if Teng Bei and Prince Benjamin had been there as well. It is likely that they had been, as there were others beside the three of us. On the third deck, we obtained a sign board and paint from the storage before finding the body of Kaede in the workshop. After a quick look around, I couldn't find anything standing around in the deck 3 rooms. Only Teng Bei remained in the guest commons when I returned, so I asked them to check up on Kaede. Wishing to set up the board and paint before the discover announcement, I headed back into the swamp. Hopefully it will help us avoid making the same mistakes at shrines and wasting protection."

When we last spoke, it seemed that you had spoken to Ynes shortly before the end of the day on 7/1, so the day after did you travel with Ynes to the Deck 3 Storage and Workshop for materials?"

"Hello everyone, sorry for being late. I was busy with... something."
"Anyway, before we start I just wanted to say, I won't be giving any purple testimonies this trial. It seems like Prince Benjamin is going to hound whoever he deems suspicious based on his intuition, so I'd rather just avoid a fiasco like that altogether. The rest of you are free to testify though, at your own risk."
"Now the culprit is clearly Mr Goon. No evidence of how the culprit hid the blood spray has come up yet, so it's reasonable to say that Mr Goon, who has a lot of blood and bandages all over his head, is the only person who could have committed this murder."
"The murder route is relatively straightforward, we've already established that anyone can hide any murder weapons anywhere during previous rounds without any verification, and with so many secret passages reception alibis don't really mean anything. Therefore, the culprit must be the only person who has blood on them, Mr Goon. I rest my case."

"Haha, Ayane! You ought not to refer to His Royal Highness the First Prince so informally—It's too adorable!"
"When I departed from the second deck and made my way to the first one, I was bound for His Royal Highness the Fourth Prince's room! Some hapless fellow scorned me earlier, so I wished to discuss something with His Royal Highness. I returned to the second deck the next day, and... well, let's see how I wrote it down!"
Ynes procures her dreaded notebook.
"7:57 PM: I laid my eyes on His Royal Highness' majestic musculature once again in the second deck commons! Ahem, pardon my verbiage."

Therefore, the culprit must be the only person who has blood on them, Mr Goon. I rest my case." "I'd also like to add that Vinny, along with Ynes and Prince Benjamin had been hanging around the Deck 2 commons for quite some time before migrating to the infirmary. Because of how drawn out the timeframe is, it's also difficult to really pin when or where people were at a given time. While I must acknowledge that Ynes' whereabouts can be confirmed following 7:56PM UCT to be in the Deck 2 commons, any of these three individuals could have gone at the start of the day on 7/1 and waited in the Workshop. The only timeframe I can surmise is that, given our current facts and what I'd gathered through testimonials, Ynes returns to the Deck 2 commons at 7:56PM UCT according to the reception logs and her own notation, and Hu Tao initiates a conversation with her at the Deck 2 commons at 8:53PM UCT. Since Prince Benjamin claims that Ynes was gone besides witnessing the fight between Vinny and Teng Bei, this means that the murder must have taken place prior to 7:56PM UCT when she returns to the commons. Following that, she remains in the Deck 2 commons until the next day, where Hu Tao ventures to the Workshop and discovers Kaede's body."
"Like Otoshin says, the fight could have also been an easy coverup for Vinny being covered in blood, so maybe we should ask those of Prince Benjamin's court and Teng Bei whether Vinny was bloody or already covered in bandages when he arrived on the Deck 2 commons."

"You would presume the bodyguard of His Royal Highness the First Prince would show up to work filthy? Of course not! Mr. Cappuccino was not in such a state before his sparring match! As for your earlier question..."
Ynes flips some pages.
"20:18 (2/7): Two-Times challenged Mr. Bei! His Royal Highness and myself rooted for him, to little success!"

"Kaede made herself an easy target by using the workshop. Considering the hand carved knife block she has on her person, the chisels used, and sandpaper with wood shavings; she had likely been working away when the culprit struck. One makes quite a racket when using the workshop, with anyone on the third deck capable of hearing them. She was unfortunate that the culprit was the one to hear this time."
