Premise
For nearly two thousand years, the feudal Empire of Man has stood as the sole bastion of Human civilisation on Lubrus. Aided by their divine master Dorn, the First Emperor—now ascended to godhood—the humans of the Empire guard their way of life from threats both without and within.
The Empire
The Empire has, since its inception, been ruled by the Urian dynasty from the city of Sumpere within the region of Cronland. The game begins with the coronation of Emperor Caius, barely an adult and hungry for revenge after his father's death at the hands of an Orcish Warlord bearing a sword of Dark Elven make.
Cronland
Forested and temperate, Cronland falls under the direct administration of the Emperor and as a consequence over the years has become fiercely loyal to the Urians.
Solland
Solland is a rocky land rife with gold and silver mines. These mines have made the nobles of Solland richer than most of their peers, with House Castern benefitting more than any other. Solland is currently ruled by Lord Malven Castern, a ruthless man who has enriched his house and his region to levels never seen before while keeping his vassals in line.
Colland
The rolling hills of Colland bely a people hardened by the depravities of constant war with the Dark Elves to the east. As a consequence, most Collanders from peasant to noble are capable in at least the basic arts of warfare, providing a reliable core of trained combatants ready to face any hostile incursions. House Gryffon, currently led by Lady Lucia, are the de jure rulers of this land, with Lady Lucia acquitting herself as both a competent commander and administrator in the past few years.
Stalland
Aided by the mighty fortifications of the Divine Bastion—forged and maintained by the divine might of Dorn himself—Stalland acts as the Empire’s unflinching bulwark against unending greenskin aggression. Home to the largest iron deposits and steel foundries in the Empire, Stalland acts as the heart of the Imperial military, giving birth to a firm militarist culture as a result. Lord Helmut "the Hammer" Alkdorf, ruler of Stalland, prides himself on the fact that under his rule not one greenskin has made it past the Bastion.
Silland
Possessing rolling plains and a picturesque countryside, Silland is the breadbasket of the Empire, keeping the Empire and its armies fed during even the most brutal of famines. The wide plains have provided a perfect breeding ground for a culture of chivalry, with jousts seeming to occur practically every day. Benaro Turand, known as "Bloody Ben" due to an embarrassing tourney accident, is a jolly man who keeps his vassals in line with kindness as opposed to Lord Castern's intimidation, but below the jovial facade lies a cunning politician and warrior.
Lussland
A watery, coastal land—Lussland is the home of the Imperial fleet and the home of one of the largest ports in the world, albeit unimaginatively named, Shoretown. The seafaring culture of Lussland has created a simultaneously light-hearted yet cutthroat society. Although typically also rife with piracy issues, Lord Rodrick Kaleigh's promises of great wealth to be earned by raiding the Dark Elves appears to have calmed the tempers of Lussland's many sailors.
The Imperial Council
A body created to oversee matters of state on the Emperor's behalf, the officeholders of the Imperial Council are among the most influential nobles in the Empire with direct control over matters such as finance and law with only the Emperor able to countermand them.
The Offices of the Council and their Holders
Emperor's Hand — The Emperor's Hand is the most powerful appointed position in the realm, with the Hand being considered second only to the Emperor themselves. Consequently, the Hand holds the duty of ruling on behalf of the Emperor where necessary and overseeing the actions of the rest of the Council. As of Emperor Caius' coronation, the Emperor's Hand is Malven Castern, Lord Paramount of Solland.
Lord Chancellor — The Lord Chancellor bears the duty of overseeing the realm's finances and finding money wherever necessary to sustain the Imperial coffers. As of Emperor Caius' coronation, the office of Lord Chancellor is considered empty, with it being filled in the interim by Lord Castern's brother Sir Benedict, a competent albeit unambitious man.
Admiral of the Fleet — The Admiral of the Fleet, usually shortened to Lord Admiral, is charged with overseeing the maintenance of the Imperial Navy's readiness during peacetime and commanding it on behalf of the Emperor during times of war. This office is by convention held by a Lusslander, with the incumbent being Diane Kaleigh, a cousin to Lord Rodrick and an aggressive warmonger who desires to test her naval preparations in battle against a 'proper fleet'.
Lord Justiciar — Charged with overseeing the enforcement and creation of new laws at the Emperor's direction, the Chief Justiciar directly oversees Sumpere's city guards whilst providing directives, training guides, and equipment to other guards across the Empire. The current Lord Justiciar is Lord Tybalt Fandorn, a Stalland noble with a reputation for being a harsh disciplinarian.
Lord Marshal — The Lord Marshal's purpose is to ensure that the Empire is ready to defend itself at a moment's notice. As such, the Lord Marshal is regarded as the de facto commander of the Emperor's armies in the place of the Hand or the Emperor. The current Lord Marshal is Rupert Alkdorf, uncle of Lord Alkdorf and a hardened veteran of conflicts with both Greenskins and Dark Elves.
Imperial Spymaster — As the name would suggest, the Imperial Spymaster is charged with keeping the Emperor aware of plots and intrigue both within the realm and without. The incumbent Spymaster is known only as 'Blackcloak', named as such for the dark cloak they wear to conceal their identity. It is said that only the Hand and the Emperor know Blackcloak's true identity, with neither showing any plan of changing that.
