THE TRUTH ASSEMBLY SYSTEM
Welcome to the description for The Truth Assembly System, a system for how the special Action known as Murder is handled in a season as well as the follow up activities that occur as a result. This particular iteration of the Truth Assembly System relies on the Action Post Movement System, if you are unfamiliar, please check out the thread explaining it! First up, how does one commit this horrible deed?
Murder Most Foul
At the end of each play session for the season(When the game flips from ONGOING to PAUSED) the Mastermind will send out a call for MURDEROUS INTENT. This is a call to any player who wishes to begin work on committing a murder and has their murder Target and Plan in mind. if you have these, you should PM the mastermind and let them know you have MURDEROUS INTENT! They will ask for the details of your murder. Provide them.
Your plan should include details such as:
The Target
The Crime Scene
Any Necessary Items and how you plan to obtain them if you don't already have them
Any Setup
Any Cleanup
The mastermind will bring up any concerns and assist in fleshing out any other necessary steps. Once done, the mastermind is going to prepare a Pre-Murder Tasklist. Here is a simple example below:
Step 1: Go to the Kitchen and collect a Butcher's Knife.
Step 2: Head to the Victim's room and leave the prepared note to lure them to the Gym.
Should you fulfill the Task List then you can then complete the murder, which you should do by messaging the mastermind indicating you do so. You will need to use the Action-Post system for the setup tasks, but you will not be required to make a Post for the actual act of the murder(That would make these a little easy to solve now wouldn't it?). At this time, the mastermind will notify the victim of their untimely demise and place a
:DEAD BODY:
post in the room where the murder occurred.
Depending on the murder, the mastermind may also have prepared a Post-Murder Tasklist, but this is more on you the player since these are tasks to cleanup and hide the truth. The most common post murder task will involve disposing any tools or bloody things on your person, unless you want to arrive at the trial soaked in blood! You have until the Body Discover Announcement fires to wrap up any cleanup tasks!
The Body Discovery Announcement
The Announcement is the official notice from the Mastermind that a death has occurred and they will declare the position of the body and the game will begin shifting to the Investigation phase. There are two ways the BDA can fire!
1. Three Players make action posts at the crime scene and PM the MM to examine the body!
OR
2. A new session begins with the body currently un-discovered!
The Mastermind will also prepare and provide a Death Report for the victim and provide it to all players. It will include details regarding the circumstances of the victim's body.
The Investigation
Fragments of the Truth
Once the game resumes after a BDA, the game phase will shift to Investigation as indicated by the name of the dedicates Season Discord Chat. During this time, as indicated in the Action-Post System, you are free to make examinations throughout the map without performing any Action Posts. You should examine to look for evidence regarding the case as well as interrogate your fellows!
Key Evidence and Information for the case are known as FRAGMENTS OF TRUTH.
The Fragments of Truth are key pieces of evidence or testimonies, necessary to linking the culprit to the murder. The investigation requires that all Fragments be found/obtained. Once every fragment has been found once(potentially twice for very large games), the Trial Countdown is initiated and players have a limited amount of time to wrap up investigations. Note that what evidence is a fragment of truth is a secret, so if you find it, TELL NO ONE. That it is indisputably linked to the case is your own little boon for having found it yourself!
Evidence :: These are details you can detect in the world via examination and your five senses.
Testimonial :: If a particular player was in position to notice something about the crime, they may be notified that their Testimony is critical for the trial. Instead of being found, the player must share this info before the trial with at least two other people.
Trial of Truth
All players are summoned to a central location via the action post system and must debate who is the culprit. During the trial, players can discuss what they found using three colors. Blue, Red, and Black. These three colors are used to prompt and progress the debate.
Blue Questions :: When asking a question of another player, be it for an alibi, if they saw anything, or otherwise, post it in blue. This indicates to everyone that you are seeking answers.
Red Answers :: If you are responding to a question in blue, place your answer in red. All players are fully allowed to lie in red.
Black Statements :: If you are bringing up information un-prompted, or just talking in general, use the default black text. All players are fully allowed to lie in black. If you are using a different theme for the forum this color is just whatever the default color your text is!
Fragments of Truth can be stated in Red or Black whenever it makes sense, but should NOT be specified as Fragments of Truth. The knowledge that they are pieces of the true puzzle can only TRULY be known by those who found the evidence themselves.
The trial lasts at least a minimum amount of time and until all Fragments of Truth have been presented at least once. Once these conditions are met the MM will wait a random sum of time, then announce the trial is concluding and call for Truth Assembly.
After the trial, all players, living and dead, are required to submit a final theory direct to the mastermind, explaining their theory. This is done with the MM via PMs on the Forum. Dead players will submit Truth Assembly to the MM and will receive points in accordance, though their values will not contribute to Truth Unveiled or Falsehood Prevails.
You only get One Shot.
Once you send it you may not make changes, or send other theories. You are judged on the very first one you send.
If you identify the culprit successfully, you get 1 Point. If you correctly determine the method of the murder with minimal or no faults, you get 2 Points. So a Perfect Deduction, otherwise known as "Truth Assembled" nets you 3 total points. If you are the culprit, you gain points based on how many incorrect theories and mistaken culprits are submitted. You get 1 point per player who fails to identify you as the culprit. How the points end up determines the outcome of the trial, and have a general impact on who 'wins' the season. You should check the General Systems rules for further details!
Falsehood Prevails
Falsehood Prevails occurs if the total number of points earned by the Innocents is 0. If this occurs, the game instantly ends with the Murderer as the winner.
Truth Unveiled
If at least one player completes Truth Assembled and earns 3 points, then the Truth is Unveiled and the guilty party is appropriately identified and executed.
As Luck would have it...
If Falsehood does not prevail, but neither is Truth Unveiled, then as luck would have it the culprit gets voted down without a clear understanding of why. The culprit gains an extra point for every player bamboozled, but dies and the game goes on.
