Spellcard battles are the equivalent of a murder attempt in Gensokyo. To initiate a spellcard battle, simply go to the same location as the person you wish to battle and the battle will begin.
Each player will start out with 15 health. Health is decreased by 1 from grazes, and by 5 from direct hits. Each player will be given skills to use for each turn that passes. A player may only use up to 1 skill per turn and cannot use the same skill consecutively (each skill has 1 turn cooldown, some have more).
Grazing is the easiest method of reducing the opposing player's health. Most skills and spellcards have a chance to graze the opposing player, which can vary depending on how the opponent decides to react. Direct hits are more difficult to get, and will mostly be from using spellcards as bombs.
Players will react to what the other player does primarily by dodging. Since a spellcard battle takes place in a 3-dimensional space, you can dodge either up, down, right, left, forward, or backward. Dodging backward will increase your dodge rate by 20%, while dodging forward will decrease your dodge rate by 10%. However, spellcard battles take place in a fixed area, meaning that there is a limit to how far you can dodge in a single direction.
Spellcards can be activated at any given time. When a spellcard is activated, the player who activated it will temporarily have their health changed to 5. To break a spellcard, the opposing player must reduce their health to 0. After a spellcard is broken, the player will have their original health before the spellcard activation restored. Spellcards cannot overlap with one another. If the opponent has activated a spellcard, you cannot activate a spellcard in response.
Spellcards can also be used to bomb. This works like a normal skill, except it's much more powerful. However, if you use a spellcard to bomb, that spellcard will go into cooldown and cannot be activated for the duration of the battle. Use your spellcards wisely!
