Prologue
Avrak is the name of a city. This city was once a great citadel of hope, founded and led by the SHSL Mastermind, Emna Tandris. Under Emna's leadership, the city prospered like no other, its institutions rivaling even that of Hope's Peak Academy where Emna had been taught.
However, this hope was not to last. As the World's Most Despair Inducing Incident descended upon humanity, Avrak was by far the most affected. Civilian riots destroyed much of the city as despair spread among the citizens like wildfire. The despair was only staunched by Emna's leadership, allowing a small group of citizens still believing in hope to survive and fight back.

Much of Avrak had been cleansed of the despair group as they were now called. However, Emna was reluctant to have the citizens return, since remnants of the despair group could still be in hiding. He ordered one of his agents, Aklita Temris the SHSL Immortal, to search the city and get rid of any refugees of despair.
Aklita carried out her task swiftly, locating such a group in just a few days. She considered killing them, but with resources being scarce, she couldn't risk overextending. So she devised a plan. She would let the remaining members of the despair group participate in a game of mutual killing. They could exterminate one another without her having to put in much effort at all.
The plan went into action, but unexpectedly there was a member of the despair group who managed to win the game. Aklita couldn't keep the rest of the members alive, so she accessed a dam nearby and flooded the sector. She then moved to kill the remaining member. Her task accomplished, Aklita reported back to Emna of the despair group's demise.

Some time had passed after the citizens had returned and began rebuilding the city. Everything looked to be returning to normal soon. However, Emna still had one more problem on his hands. He had captured and trapped many members of the despair group in an underground chamber where cryogenic sleep was induced, the freezing room. He decided to erase the memories of those he had trapped in hopes of purging the despair from their minds.
In order to ensure that the despair had truly left them, Emna conducted tests of mutual killings with groups from the former despair group members. Among these groups was one which contained many of his friends from before the incident. Emna decided to give this group a special test, but in the end they failed and were subsequently annihilated. In the end it was all for the greater good, Emna told himself. All for the greater good.
