Chapter 1: The Trial

[The City [EclipseZwolf]]

Owen: "I feel like we are getting off track. Lets stop and take a look at this one step at a time, instead of trying to come up with random scenarios that explain everything."

-Owen takes a deep breath and crosses his arms-

Owen: "We know Axel was found dead in Room 7 on the 5th Floor. The door was locked when we found it and I am not aware of a method to lock the empty apartment doors from the outside. The only way out of the room was the hole up into Ryo's Room. So performing this crime requires knowledge that the hole exists or, technically, finding it. For now though, we only know that the person who made the hole knows about it."

-Owen uncrosses his arms and looks at the spinning roulette table-

Owen: "So, who made the hole in Room 7? And what evidence do we have to support that claim? I can only think of one person."

[Daiwa Scarlet]

"So Ryo, what had you used the kitchen knives for? There are two missing and the cut on the blanket ropes match neither the daggers nor the dull chakram."

In response to Owen, Satone states, "The only person with sawdust on them at this point would be Axel. However, the culprit could have cleaned themselves."

[Ryo Asuka]

Ryo looked at Owen then Satone.

"No, that's wrong. There's no evidence to prove that a second person made those holes. The item used to make the holes matched Axel's circles of death. Also, Axel was the only person seen holding those items at any point. Meaning there's no evidence that anybody besides Axel made the holes."

He then sighed.

"The kitchen knives were not used in this murder. After Owen and I busted down the Maid's room with our pot of frozen meats, I tried to climb the laundry chute but it was too slippery. However, I realized there was somebody that might be able to climb the chute using kitchen knives: Nanashi. So, I got two kitchen knives from the kitchen and gave them to Owen, who then gave them to Nanashi who then used them to climb the laundry chute. Both of them can verify this."

"Eh- Mishy... I thought I already mentioned when I explored Axel's room.
I don't mind repeating it again, though!
Following the announcement of Axel's death, I decided to check his room for any clues as there were already a lot of people at the crime scene.  I did this minutes after investigation began, and Axel's dagger was in his nightstand when I found it.
Oh, you probably want to know about Lloyd's dagger too!
I visited Lloyd's room long before Axel's body was found.  It was definitely before I started asking everyone to attend breakfast!
Therefore, Lloyd didn't have his original dagger the day before Axel's body was found.
How did I get those daggers—that's a good question, Mishy!
I went into their rooms, opened the drawers on their nightstands, and picked up the daggers left inside.
Err- to be accurate, the doors weren't unlocked when I first tried to get in, but I think the method I used to get inside is unrelated to this incident.
During my own investigation, I did a quick check and the only people who would have been capable of entering rooms via this method is Sato- the Magical Devil Girl and myself.
Because this is something I found out near the end of the investigation period, no one else would have been able to use the same method over the past two days."

Not taking any offense to the line of questioning, he smiles at Mishy before gesturing towards Satone.
"I think Satone's idea makes sense—as expected of the Magical Devil Girl!
It would explain why there's a leap from the third empty apartment room to the seventh.
After the incident with Satone, Axel and his partner began cutting holes together.  Axel gave one of his chakrams to his partner for this.
It's why we found Axel with one chakram beneath his stomach and another off to the side.  I even took a picture of it!
I'm probably just repeating things you already said, Satone. Sorry!"

"Getting back to the base of this trial then! Let's see—who made the hole to Ryo's room?
Well, Axel would have to have a partner or witness. We can prove this with a combination of statements made by the other trial-goers and some items found near or at the scene.
As I brought up earlier, there were rags and towels found in Ryo's closet. Those rags and towels had sawdust on them. According to Satone, the person who ambushed her used a rag with in chloroform.
Not to mention, Axel was found with sawdust on him still, so those items were likely not used to clean his clothes.
This also means that the partner, or culprit, got sawdust on them too, and in order to get that on you, you would have to be in the closet when that happened.
If you only went up and down the holes, you wouldn't have gotten much, if any, on you.
I tested by jumping down the hole found in my closet.
At the very least, if we confirm that Axel had an accomplice in his sawing adventure, then we can also say that the culprit is definitely not Yoff!"

"Chakram come in pairs, or at least this one did. Two could have used a chakram each for the creation of the holes. Speaking of chakram, the evidence for their use would be the blood splatter on them. There is a blood free spot where they had been held. A chakram was under Axel while the other was in the blood pool next to his head, if their position matters."

"Ryo, how long has the washing machines been running for? Could they have done multiple washes in the time?"

"I heard the washing machine start around 5am. However, I did not check until 8am. I'm not sure when the washer stopped making noise, but it is possible that it could have gone through multiple washes before I found it."

"Hey guys sorry I've been quiet.. but I was so scared after finding out Axel died that I just didn't know what to investigate! I guess that makes me a really bad person.. sorry! I mean Yuuta already told everyone my alibi but I guess I can repeat for him: I woke up at 8am and headed downstairs, for breakfast, only stopping long enough to confirm Rikka, Yuuta and Satone were nearby. Satone said she felt sick and will be downstairs later, so we left her upstairs. After I enjoyed a eggs and toast breakfast made by Owen and Silver Mask, me, Rikka and Yuuta headed to the commons near Itriot, Mishy and Yoff. After a while I started to get worried about Satone so I returned upstairs to try and find her, I knocked on her door and found out she wasn't there, so me, Rikka and Yuuta searched the lower floors for her. We wandered the first four floors and then reconvened to search the 5th and 6th floors, but the elevator broke on it's way. Are motivation broke, and we kind of stood Idly before we all returned to our own rooms. The next day I awoke and after breakfast, me, Rikka and Yuuta continued our search for Satone but then Cessir told us about Axel, on the way to the fifth floor we bumped into Satone who appeared ragged but somewhat covered, I then spent most of the remaining time before coming here basically gobsmacked... I've never dealt with a real body before.."

Mishy looked really strange. It was fairly obvious Mishy wasn't acting very Mishy-like for a while being all serious. But it was getting worse with every fleeting moment to the point where Mishy was now shaking holding his head with both paws as if fighting with something in it's head. The sentences didn't seem to match up and eventually broke in middle of even words.

"It doesn't... No, Mishy shouldn't,,, make any sense... think of something... why... like horrible that... why even though they had... NO MISHY ST... such opportunity to k... OP..! ill Satone... Why didn't they kill Satone? Why didn't they kill Satone? Why why why why why why whywhywhywhyIH5h=TH_FH*ASHF&(HRApiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiSession terminated"

A silence came with Mishy just standing there with his head hanging down completely motionless. Until suddenly a voice quite similar yet nothing like Mishy's came from him(?). The voice certainly seemed to sound like Mishy's but was much more feminine and human.

"Phew, that was dangerous... This situation looked like a perfect opportunity to collect data for first 'Mishy' personality prototype, but maybe it was a bit too fast to introduce 'Mishy' into something like death game. Maybe I was a bit too naive thinking a murder would really happen or hoping that it will be resolved before 'Mishy' thinks to hard about it. That aside..."

Mishy(?) slowly raises head up in a very smooth almost mechanical movement and takes a look at everyone.

"I apologize for Mishy surprising everyone. He is as innocent as small child, you see. Just a couple of ill thoughts can lead to thoughts of suicide or complete overload. After this trial, I'm going to reboot Mishy and he will wake up tomorrow as your normal Mishy we all know and love, so don't worry. But before that, we have to actually solve this murder, don't we? I am sure you might be confused as to what is going on, but if you get distracted yet again by something unrelated, this will end in everyone's death. I would like to avoid that scenario, so I will have to step in. I might not be knowledgeable about building structure and locations Mishy hasn't been to, but I was always watching so I know everything Mishy does and then some more. During 'investigation' I watched what everyone did at the crime scene through Mishy's eyes, so most of my judgement will be based on what I have seen."

?? inhales deeply before starting.

"First, lets throw off all unimportant elements. 1.Nanashi and daggers, I saw Nanashi try to loot even the chakrams but stop because of being conscious of watchful eyes, chakrams are important element related to crime scene. I don't know why Nanashi collects weapons or for what purpose but it must be unrelated to current case."
"Second, any notes from The Judgement. I think its waste of time to even bring them up in trial."
"Third, who cut the rope Satone was hanged with and how and with what. I have hard time believing it was the culprit."

"With those few eliminated, there is a little bit less noise in the picture. Let us start then. With the very important question nobody except Mishy tried to bring up. Why was Satone not murdered when she was quite obviously the much more easy victim? I saw Satone investigate more than anyone else, so its very doubtful she is the murderer. That being said, it is still true that if she is innocent, the question of why was it Axel who was killed and not Satone becomes the main point of this trial. Say, Satone, did you ever ask
yourself why? Why are you alive and Axel is dead?"

"Er... well. If anyone´s interested... Rikka, Nibutani-san and I were all together during the entire day. We can pretty much vouch for eachother´s alibis. 

During the first day, I made sure to check if Rikka, Shichimiya and Nibutani-san all attended breakfast at 8AM. That´s when I found out that Shichimiya got sick and would come down later, so I left her alone to recover. After that, I stuck with Nibutani-san and Rikka in the Commons, where Mishy, Yoff and Itriot seemed to be hanging out too.
Afterwards, Rikka, Nibutani-san and I all got worried about Shichimiya, so we went up to her room to check up on her. However, after a knock on the door, we found out that she wasn´t there, so we searched around the lower floors looking for her.

We wandered through all the rooms from floor one to floor four looking for Shichimiya, but were unable to find her. So we planned to even go as far as breaking the doors on floor five and six to find her... But then the elevator broke, and stopped our search entirely.

The next day, we all resumed our search, but that didn´t last for long, since Cessair announced the death of Axel. That´s when we finally found Satone, who joined us on our way to the fifth floor."

Rikka? Nibutani-san? You can easily confirm this right? None of us three could have done this murder, since we have been looking for Shichimiya this entire time.

"I can confirm with the Dark Flame Master that he, Mori Summer and myself have been searching for Sophia most of Day 1. I would like to add though that we split off to lower floors after checking Sophia's room. While I was searching on the 4th floor. I saw Ryo enter the elevator. He was holding a war hammer and noticed it was glowing (From her chuuni perspective XD) dark red color on its head and its interesting to note that when I saw Ryo with the hammer again earlier in the investigation, it wasn't glowing anymore.

Satone recoils at Mishy?'s sudden seriousness, "W-well, perhaps they just thought I was not worth the effort? I-it would take more to hide two bodies after all... Maybe there is also the fact that... Axel was less likely to be missed. He could be hidden for longer without people searching for him. If the motive was personal, then there would also be no reason for the culprit to kill me. I had not seen their face after all."

Mishy? turns to Cessair and other 2 lords.

"Are there any rules as to how many other contestants one can kill?"

Cessair: "Indeed. There may only be two deaths per Trial. If further deaths would occur, I will prevent them."

Mishy? nods to Cessair and looks back to Satone.

"In other words Satone. You are only alive for 2 possibles reasons. 1.Culprit had a reason not to kill you. 2.Culprit had no will or reason to kill you. I can't think of any reasons not to kill you while
killing a person who would find even a needle in a haystack sounds like big enough reason to me, even when leaving you alive might make you a viable suspect. Is that all there is to it? No."

"Which brings us to next point. Why did they kill Axel? Possible reasons are: 1.Personal grudges. 2.Only to win the game. 3.Circumstances called for it. Was this a 1. or 2. and planned murder? Or completely coincidental unfortunate accident? There is no guessing that until we understand if the kidnapper who got you is the culprit. And there is no understanding that if we don't understand the motive of both the murder and kidnapping."

"So lets try looking at everyone who could've remotely kidnapped you in first place. There have been 15 people alive at that time, you included. Mishy, Yoff, Shinka, Rikka and Yuuta headed down immediately after breakfast and stayed there until you already left your room and was kidnapped. Lloyd and Day went to casino and were together at least until after that time. Nanashi and Ryo were together on 4th floor. Caster was holed up in kitchen watching Owen and Owen in turn preventing Caster from leaving for what I assume good first half of the day. That's 11 people eliminated. That leaves Axel who was obviously sawing as you mentioned. So there are 3 possible candidates: Pierrick, Monika and Rin, who nobody ever mentioned for duration of whole trial. Only one of those 3 could have chloroform'd you Satone."

"Care to explain what you were doing in first half of the day you 3?"

"Now that you mention it, Rin may be the only one who could confirm the sawing. It was only loud enough to be heard in certain sections of the fifth and sixth floor, but considering how her room is only a short distance from the elevator and thus Nanashi's room, Rin should have heard the sawing."
