Being caught meant I had something to hide. I just happened to be taking a smoke when I was investigating the barrier. The signal part was me trying to make it clear I couldn't hear the people on the other side.

In hindsight I should have taken a pic @cool Dude. It definitely is real and has a similar look to when observes the surface while under water.
