The other half of the tent, separated by a flap sewn with handkerchiefs, does not uphold the same merry atmosphere as the front. It includes the heavy scent of kerosene, although there appears to be none in the premises, and the lingering scent of pastries. Some supplies have been left on a plain table, unorganized. It is clear from backstage that the whole circus has an oak frame. A piñata, in the bright form of a donkey, dangles from the ceiling, nine feet above the ground. The piñata is kept in place by a rope that loops over a wooden beam and is tied around a single crate.
The rope connecting the crate to the piñata has been untied and partially cut. A blue folder has been placed on top of the crate and the piñata is now missing.
