Turn: A full cycle of actions performed by all participants that goes in this order:
Turn (Pre-Phase >>> Main Phase >>> BB Gain) >>> Turn (...)
Pre-Phase (Input >>> Calc)
Main Phase (Input >>> Calc)
Pre-Phase: The segment of a turn in which players can equip or deselect an already equipped weapon or activate skills that can be used in that phase.
Main Phase: The segment of a turn in which players can perform any physically possible action, activate skills that can be used in that phase, or move around the map.
Action: Something done or performed by a character, generally involving attacking or using skills. Does not include movement, but generally can be performed during movement.
Movement: The act of transporting oneself to another location on the map, generally by walking or climbing. Does not include actions, but generally can be performed during an action.
Battle Bullet (i.e. BB): The gimmick by which skills are used during fights. Also the term used to describe an automatically recurring resource that doubles as a cost for skills.
Skill: Actions that cost BB. Some skills have extra conditions. These are also referred to as actives.
Linear Tree vs Branching Tree: A tree refers to a list of actives the character can use. A linear tree generally gives skills with increasing cost, so as to give incentive to reserve one's BB until their final skill can be used. A branching tree generally gives multiple skills with a similar, low cost, so as to allow the character to use a variety of options throughout a fight, but these skills altogether are generally weak.
Mod: Skills that occur continuously, often without being invoked by the character. These are also referred to as passives.
Negating vs Not Activating: Negating an effect will force the target to waste BB on the skill that has been stopped, but preventing a skill from activating altogether will null the cost as well. Non-activation is also sometimes referred to as being nulled or prevented.
Target: Some skills and actions require a target. The target can be any one character or object currently in that fight, but must be stated by the user when performing an action or activating a skill on it.
Examining: The act of checking certain details on any given target, including other characters and objects. Can be performed only a limited number of times during a turn.
Player vs NPC vs Character vs Participant: Character is the umbrella term for the other three terms. Participant refers to characters currently in a given fight. Players are controlled by people, except the host. NPCs are controlled by the host and are also referred to as bosses.
