Setting
Season Carnival will take place in a recently constructed amusement park. Due to the amusement park's location, many powerful organizations have taken interest in controlling it, and have sent their top members in, undercover or straight through the front door. And so, the stage is set for a large-scale conflict that could decide not only the fate of the amusement park, but that of the world itself.
Rules
Season Carnival will take place in a recently constructed amusement park. Due to the amusement park's location, many powerful organizations have taken interest in controlling it, and have sent their top members in, undercover or straight through the front door. And so, the stage is set for a large-scale conflict that could decide not only the fate of the amusement park, but that of the world itself.
Rules
Season Carnival will follow the general rules of MMG, with the following changes:
Roles and Positions
Each player in Season Carnival will be given a different role and position. A player's role will determine their objectives and special abilities, while a player's position will determine the facilities they are able to initially access in the amusement park. A player's role and position are completely independent of one another.
Available roles include: Normal Citizen, Serial Killer, Private Investigator, and Occult Explorer.
Available positions include: Visitor, Staff, and Mascot.
All players of 1 role will be able to achieve a Team Victory. This occurs when the objective of all players with that role has been achieved. In this case, all players with that given role will be victorious in the game.
It is impossible to change your role and position once the game has started, with one exception. The Normal Citizen role has the ability to join any other role, with the condition that the player has found another player of that role, and that the player of that role is willing to let them join. After this condition has been cleared, a trial will be given to the Normal Citizen depending on the role they intend to join. Once the Normal Citizen has completed this trial, they will be given their new role.
More information on roles and positions will be provided in the Applications thread.
Social Media
The amusement park may have been physically cut off from the rest of the world, but the internet is still fully functional, and thus every person trapped inside is able to use social media to communicate with the outside world. A variety of social media pages will be provided to the players, for general conversations, news reports, as well as pages exclusive to players with specific roles. Various benefits can be obtained from using social media, especially for those using role-exclusive pages. More on this later.
To use social media, a player must have a username. A player's 'main account' will use their character's name by default, thus the player can make social media posts by themselves. However, a player can also create an 'alternate account', and have the mastermind make the post for them, using a different format. On some pages a player will be barred from using their 'main account' and will only be able to post using 'alternate accounts', and vice versa. Since social media is used through phones, and phones will automatically lock the moment a player stops using social media, it is impossible for another player to take control of a player's 'main account' or 'alternate accounts'. Two 'alternate accounts' cannot have the same name, so if a player chooses a name for an 'alternate account', that name cannot be used by any other players for the duration of the game. Social media accounts cannot be deleted, nor can posts be deleted. Anything a player posts on social media will become permanent.
Murders and Trials
The police are constantly observing the situation inside the amusement park, and are constantly keeping tabs on every social media page they have access to. When the photograph of a corpse is found on any given social media page, the police will take some time to verify that the photograph is genuine, then immediately declare an investigation in progress. Depending on the social media page, the police will take more or less time to declare an investigation. Posting a corpse photograph on a social media page with more connections to the police will trigger a faster investigation.
After an investigation is declared, the game will move into a 1 hour Investigation Phase. During the Investigation Phase, police activity will be exceptionally high, and any corpse that is photographed during this time will immediately trigger a 1 hour extension of the Investigation Phase. All social media posts will be monitored heavily, and all private investigators within the amusement park will be given special abilities.
When the Investigation Phase concludes, the game will move into the Trial Phase. The Trial Phase will last for 24 hours for every corpse that has been discovered before or during the Investigation Phase. During the Trial Phase, 7 random mastermind-created NPCs will be given the role of the jury. All NPCs will have publicly available profiles which list their personalities, motivations, and voting tendencies. The role of the players during this phase is to convince the NPCs to vote in a particular way using a special social media page assigned for the trial.
The colored truth trial system will be in effect during the trial phase, with the following changes. The Interrogation Phase components will be entirely removed. Instead, each NPC participating as a jury member will be susceptible to a different colored bullet. i.e. If an NPC is susceptible to red, that means they will be more willing to believe arguments that make use of Verbal Bullets. These traits will not be available on an NPC's public profile, and will instead be up to the players to figure out.
After the Trial Phase, a few minutes will be dedicated to casting votes. The player with the most votes cast on them will be subject to an execution. If 2 or more players have the same number of votes cast on them, they will be subject to a second vote. After the execution, the police will be given full authority to conduct an investigation on the background of the executed player. The investigation will be concluded in 1 hour, and will reveal the player's role as well as whether or not they were actually guilty. The trial will conclude after the results of the investigation are finished.
Coordination and Cheating
Season Carnival is a game where coordinating with players of the same role is extremely powerful, thus communication with other players is extremely restricted to balance this aspect of the game. The only forms of communication allowed are: posting on social media (this can include the game's chatroom, although this is also discouraged), or talking to other players in person (this is done through pms or, in the case of many players, through a chatroom).
Contacting other players outside of social media and while you and the other player are not in the same room on the map is prohibited. Contacting other players before the game begins is prohibited. Using forum functions to check who is currently viewing certain boards is prohibited (i.e. If you check who is currently viewing a board which only private investigators can access, this is considered cheating). Cheating in any way will result in a warning, or expulsion from the game. Please be careful not to cheat.
