Setting
Months filled with mysterious deaths, vanishing objects, and giant craters appearing out of thin air have left the people of Avrak City ill at ease. In an attempt to quash these fears, the mayor has sponsored a new project, building an amusement park for the people to enjoy. Initially, the amusement park was a huge success, however, either on purpose or by accident, the location of the amusement park was one of great interest to many potential criminals, causing an enormous influx of ill-intentioned people into the location. To combat this, the mayor hired several detectives to keep an eye on any potential criminals, and sent them into the park. And so, the stage for the conflict to follow was set.
Location and Positions
Season Carnival takes place at an amusement park with several different areas. Players will choose from 3 different positions, visitor, staff, and mascot. Each of these positions have different starting items, and access to different areas, i.e. visitors will have card keys to the visitor center, staff will have keys to the ride operating station, etc. Specific items will only be available at these locations and some items will only be useable by players with a specific position.
Social Media and Roles
In this season, although the players have been cut off from the outside world, they have not been cut off from using the internet. As such, players will be able to post things on social media while they are in the amusement park. At the beginning of the game, each player will choose one out of four roles, serial killer, private investigator, occult explorer, or normal citizen. In addition to special abilities, each of these roles will have access to a special social media page where only players of a specific role will be given access. On these social media pages, players will post anonymous messages to coordinate and receive information. Some benefits will also be given if players post on social media, i.e. since the police are coordinating with the private investigators, posting a corpse on the private investigator page can lead to a much faster body discovery.
Roles cannot be changed once a player has chosen them. However, it is possible for a player with the normal citizen role to change their roles by being converted into another faction. This will first involve finding someone of that faction, then performing an act to prove oneself afterward. Only normal citizens are allowed to do this, other roles will not be allowed to change once the game starts.
Social Media Trials
Trials in Season Carnival will work differently from normal seasons. Whenever a corpse appears, a player make take a photograph of the corpse and post that photograph on social media. Since the police are actively investigating the amusement park incident, they are also monitoring social media pages. Depending on which page the corpse photograph is posted to, the police will respond after a certain amount of time and declare a trial in progress. A special trial social media page will be opened, where players will post evidence and attempt to convince a special jury of who is innocent and who is guilty. Players will not be able to vote in this trial, instead, several NPCs from outside the game will be the ones voting. It is up to the player to convince the NPCs of their innocence or guilt. The colored truth system may be used to add depth to the trial.
Since this is a trial taking place on social media, no investigation time will be given. Murders are still permitted during trial, however, since the police are on high alert during the trial, all corpse discoveries will become instantaneous. In addition, if a player is caught by a private investigator in the act of murder during a trial, the private investigator will be given the right to enact justice on the spot. This can result in an instant game over depending on the private investigator's judgment. Additional corpses will not receive a new trial, but will be added to the current trial, and a time extension will be given.
NPCs
NPCs will be created by the mastermind, and will each be given a concrete personality and voting habit. These will be known to the players at the beginning of the game. There will also be applications available to people who want to control NPCs, or who do not have enough free time to play the game, and only wish to watch as an NPC. Since NPCs are outside the game map, they cannot interact with the game, but they can post on social media and observe or vote in trials. People who apply as NPCs cannot apply as normal players.
Fair Play
In Season Carnival, a team victory involving all players of a given role is allowed. This encourages players to cooperate with one another, but also opens the road to alliances dominating the entire game. Due to this, all roles will be chosen with an element of randomness (while this means you might not get the role you want, it avoids situations like "sova must be a serial killer because that's obviously what he'd pick"). Of course, players are also forbidden from revealing their roles before the game begins.
First a mansion in the woods, and now an amusement park? Where's Fedralis?!?!?!
The plot of season carnival will be an interesting one. Look forward to it.
