Hmm...
Well, time for me to make my guess.
Aeturnus was a man, a great man, who foretold that the humans would bring their own destruction. He understood humans all to well, and knew that their greed will lead to their resources being consumed and their downfall, or whatever that book states since I don't actually have the pieces.
Aeturnus discovered something though, that could save the human race. A blood weapon. One with unlimited energy. This weapon underwent that Blood Body thingy, creating a humanoid blood weapon with intense power. One that could control time, and had unlimited energy. This is the man before us.
This blood weapon was sanctioned to a tower, a tower made for the research of outputting the source of this weapon, energy. They wished to limit the output of the weapon and spread it around the world, creating a tower with an unlimited yet maintained amount of energy flowing through. However, this failed. It could not output near enough energy throughout the world that they wanted.
It was inevitable that the human race would die. Aeturnus was included in this, as he died with his research. The Aeturnus we know, however, his blood weapon Eternity, lived on for over 800 years, and dreamed to bring back the human race.
To do this, he sought those with power. He wished to forge Eternity, a second of himself, in order to have enough energy sources to fuel the tower. Reverting time throughout the world itself.
I dunno. Something ridiculous like that.
------------------------ my post.. [24/03/2014 2:35:26 PM] Mystio: oh, and as to who we are, we are the last survivng humans.
unfortunetly, almost every post in the trial was all theories. People kept referring to evidence, such as mentioning books, and mentioning small passages. But nobody revealed the actual wording of said evidence, so I was unable to find any evidence to go off of at all. So I simply thought outside the box and tried to solve everything and failed. The end.

I'll take that request then. "Theory Sign - Climax Logic!" In the beginning there was the human race with their machines and contraptions. Then, as they developed further, they began to lack the energy and resources to power their machines. It was at this time that a researcher named Aeturnus began to develop a solution to the energy crisis. In the midst of his research, he made a discovery. A particle within the blood of all living entities that possessed an incredible power. He then dubbed the particle after his own name, the Aeturnum. While attempting to harness the power of the Aeturnums, the researcher, most likely by accident, crafted the first of what would be known as blood weapons. At around the same time, Aeturnus also discovered the source of the power of Aeturnums, some great entity from beyond time and space that gave the Aeturnums their incredible power. With this solution, Aeturnus gave the human race the energy to operate their machines and prosper once again. He used his blood weapon to channel the energy from the Aeturnums into a physically compatible form. However, this had some side effects on him, since he had stopped aging and his blood weapon had gone through several changes itself. After a great deal of time had passed, only did Aeturnus realize the limitations of blood weapons and of himself. He had been altered to such a state that he was becoming unable to control the Aeturnums. This is the reason that he was unable to create another blood weapon with the same method he had made his own. This problem needed another solution, and so he built a tower where he could research possible methods to replicate his blood weapon, stabilize control over the Aeturnums, and look for a possible alternate energy source to the Aeturnum. After some failed attempts at replicating his own blood weapon through normal means, Aeturnus looked towards recreating the power of his blood weapon in another person. He invited 15 people to his research tower for this exact reason. For the plan to work, Aeturnus required high levels of stress and emotion for his own Aeturnums to transfer to the other person's blood weapon. Thus he placed a drop of his own blood in the people's blood weapons and ordered them to kill each other. With the power to control time and space present in the Aeturnums, whenever a person died, Aeturnus could always bring them back to life. Through this mutual killing, the other people's blood weapons would gradually synchronize with his own, eventually becoming as powerful as his own. This project would be named "Forging the Eternity," with the Eternity Weapon, Aeturnus's weapon, as the desired end result. The person whose weapon managed to ascend to the level of the Eternity Weapon would then replace Aeturnus as the one mediating the flow of power between the Aeturnums and the human race, averting a disaster where the Aeturnums go out of control and destroy humanity. As for us, we are the ones who were invited here, and if all goes according to plan, one of us will become the one to control the infinite power of the Aeturnums and save the human race from another energy crisis. -Spellcard End-

Let's start from the beginning.
Humanity was thriving, they had everything, but they were greedy, they wanted to achieve more. They foolishly started creating machines and contraptions that consumed the resources -energy- of the world up to the point where they feared that it would bring destruction upon themselves.
One man appeared and attempted to resolve the problem, Aeturnus.
This tower was used to find a new energy source, in order to fill the void that humanity had created. After multiple failed projects, Aeturnus discovered the existence of a particle in the blood of living beings, which he named "Aeturnums"
Manipulating this particle allowed for incredible energy generation. It seemed that Aeturnums were bound to the owner, but it was found that the bind could be broken in situations involving high stress and emotions, and they could switch owners.
However, Aeturnums proved difficult to control. And Aeturnus decided he would need a 'tool' to control it. As such, Blood Weapons were created, as a tool to draw forth the Aeturnums power.
This revealed exactly what he needed, an infinite energy source. Aeturnus used himself as a connection between the gate and the world to provide this energy, however, this energy slowly started changing him. His blood weapon had changed and time no longer had any meaning... It became... an Eternity.
However, he could not stop. The world needed a source of energy, so he had to continue, despite the risks. He could not close the gate to this energy on his own.
He decided to continue the research, looking for an alternate energy source in order to replace the current one. But the experiments all failed, and nothing came to his aid.
After this, he decided he had no other choice but to forge another Eternity. Someone with the same power and weapon as himself, in order to control the gate between the energy and the world, so he selected a group he thought would have the potential to awaken, and control the Aeturnums.
You placed a drop of your blood in their blood weapons so that the energy between that person and yourself could synchronize and mutate... Into an Eternity Weapon.
And now we are here, at the end of the road.
Your hopes are that someone is able to meet your expectations, survive the twelve strikes of Eternity... And kill you. That person would take control of your throne, your power, and your weapon. And assume the responsibility of the gate, with both Eternity weapons, it would be trivial to fully control it in whichever way the person desired.
This would be the ultimate result that Aeturnus had hoped for.

Right, giant post from hell incoming. I'll add a picture or something to the official theory when you put it up afterwards.
How this is going to work is I'm going to post the report, then I will post my speculations about each report underneath it. I will pick what I believe to sound the most reasonable speculations in a summary at the very end of this.
“Report by the head of the Blood Division _______.”
“I am writing to describe the actions and results of what I have undertaken recently. Aeturnus has been acting strangely lately. Extended Vacations and Disney world aside, I am unsure of what exactly he plans to do. After sending all but the highest ranking employees and inviting that strange group of individuals here his plans seem strange. I have to admit that I may not have anywhere near the mental fortitude of Aeturnus as I have lived barely a tenth as long as him, and I am almost 80 years old! The rumors about him simply exchanging the cloak to his successor and hiding his “deaths” over the centuries were far-fetched, but believable. After all who lives that long? I am prepared for anything at this point after what I just learned. As I write this the pods behind me contain the soon to be Blood Weapons of the individuals he called here. In the last pod I have something entirely different though. I always thought Aeturnus’s blood weapon was a clock, but I never imagined it would be a ___________!
The rest of the report is obscured with blood.
Here, we see that Aeturnus has sent all of the other fellow researchers within the facility on vacation. Might not be that important, but it does ensure that we are all alone with him, Ragna, and each other during these trials. As interpreted from before, his age was in the 800s, to be specific, 812 if I recall correctly. This also brings up a theory in regards to Aeturnus passing down his cloak to successors, but I believe that it is flawed. Interestingly enough however, all of our blood weapons were developed at this point, and Aeturnus' blood weapon was brought up as to not be a clock, but a ________!, as the writer put it. We would later discover that Aeturnus' blood weapon was the Eternity Weapon.
“First: Forge Eternity”
The scattered papers all have the word “First:” on them followed by an ink droplet as if the person who was writing was lost in thought about what to write.
These two bits when compared with other fragmented reports can only lead to one logical conclusion. Aeturnus was attempting to replicate "Eternity", namely the Eternity Weapon. This was his goal, first and foremost, to replicate the EW, or Eternity Weapon.
Some people noticed immediately and didn't forget, but I forgot that we were in a tower that was extremely high up, with society seemingly progressing normally as usual. This is rather important in the next part, I suppose.
The Intro reads, “Once there existed a world upon which the great gears of an incredible people turned. A people who constructed beautiful masterpieces and complex machines in pursuit of achieving something far greater than just themselves. A race that prided themselves on their knowledge and skill, humans. A prideful race whose skill was only matched by their own foolishness. They built massive machines and terrible contraptions that consumed _________ of the world and destroyed that which had brought them into being. The people began to fear an end to their age of dominance and searched fervently for a ___________ their ever changing creations. A great researcher by the name of Aeturnus arose from the ranks of his fellows to solve the problem that his own people had created.”
The middle pages of the book are soaked through with blood. Just before the ending of the book begins there is a bookmark.
The end of the book reads, “But alas, his plan failed. Unable to create something of even greater _________ than __________. The man thought of the fate of those he had imprisoned in his tower. It had been a rather far-fetched hope that one of them who be able to _________ his title. The man sits on the top of his tower and chuckles to himself about the irony of his situation. It was then that the man surrendered to the inevitable and closed his eyes. The massive gears of the tower churned to life and the tower chimed for midnight.”
Here, we have the Crimson Book. This book essentially details the events leading up to this point, and the potential future that may come if we fail the trial that awaits us now. It details how the human race had progressed extremely far in terms of technology, and that this eventually led to the resources available to us dwindling. Of course, panic ensued and humanity searched desperately to find a solution to the problem. This led to the rise of Aeturnus, a researcher who claimed to have found the answer to the problem. Now, this solution of his entailed the use of Aeturnums, which are...
“Aeturnum(Name coined by the one who discovered them, Aeturnus) : A particle found in the blood of living beings, sentient beings appear to have more than non-sentient beings. Manipulating these particles allows incredible energy generation, but is difficult to control. This is due to the particle being a direct connection to the workings of space and time. We are currently investigating ways to better control the energy generated. Aeturnums appear to be bound to the one whose blood they were drawn from and only that person may control them. The bind seems to break in situations involving high stress and emotions. At this moment Aeturnums can switch owners.”
From this, we can deduce that all objects contain Aeturnums, but there is a much greater amount of them in sentient beings than inanimate objects. The energy in Aeturnus' own words is difficult to control, but he is able in a sense to keep himself going, to continue providing humanity with the energy it requires with Aeturnums. However, Aeturnus himself did bring up a metaphor for the situation, in which he is the one keeping a "floodgate" of energy open ever so slightly, so we are not completely destroyed by the overload of energy if he opens it entirely, and so we are not destroyed by the lack of energy if he closes it. After this point in which he opens it ever so slightly, he is unable to leave his post, lest he doom the rest of humanity. That is why he had the research in this tower going on. Under the guise of learning more about the blood weapon, he researched the Eternity Weapon. His experiments with replicating the Eternity Weapon were all based upon Blood Weapons at first, and one can assume that he had already created the Eternity Weapon as it mentions replicating it. One cannot replicate something that already exists, so therefore, one can say that the Eternity Weapon does exist, and that it is required to be replicated.
"Why?"
As Aeturnus' metaphor for the situation stated, "That one finds a floodgate holding back a river and realizes if his people draw from the river they will never have to fear lacking water. The man realizes how much water is behind the floodgates and knows should they open all the way then the town will be washed away by that which they desire. He opens it only slightly and holds it open to enough water passes by to help the town, but finds himself unable to leave his post or push the floodgates closed. He is doomed to stand their and hold up the gates unless someone else can help him."
This refers to how Aeturnus is this one man holding the floodgate, and what he wants here is a person to help him hold the floodgate. He does not want humanity to be exterminated, or else he would simply have let go long ago. He could have destroyed all of humankind whenever he **** well pleased, yet he hasn't. Supporting evidence for him wanting someone to assist him is within the following:
"“For the sake of _______ I must forge another. A second person and weapon whose strength rival even mine. I have invited those individuals whose strength of mind and body may eventually satisfy the requirements. Their personalities are strong, but the question is whether or not I can invoke the mutation in their blood weapons. I have placed a single drop of my blood in their weapons so that when the time comes the energy in my blood and theirs may synchronize and the mutation will occur. If they reach the final stage then all they must do is survive the strike of Eternity Twelve times. Then they must ________ me. I guess in the rules when I said they needed two I was lying. My promise to the ______ will remain true!"
We did not require two Blood Hearts to "win". This shows that Aeturnus intends to have one of us claim his title as the holder of the Eternity Weapon, the one to uphold all of humanity's energy needs. Aeturnus may then either remain with the newfound wielder of the replicated Eternity Weapon, or he may instead allow them to hold back the floodgate while he continues researching possibile solutions to the energy crisis. After all, if he can get the mutation to work with one of us participants that he invited over, it would mean that his blood is instrumental in replicating the Eternity Weapon through the Blood Heart mutation, which occurs when one is in a situation of high stress. Interestingly enough, it may be so that if we survive the strike of Eternity twelve times, we are meant to kill Aeturnus and claim his Aeturnums, which would be more than enough energy to replicate his Eternity Weapon, and we would be able to keep humanity going. Though, kill may not exactly be the only possibility, as the document does mention high stress or emotions. Possibly the hope or trust he would place in us could constitute for this. Maybe even love. This would turn one of ourselves into essentially an Aeturnus 2.0. And this also leads to the frightening possibility that, just maybe, if Aeturnus can control time as he says, what would have stopped our Eternal Weapon wielding selves from going back to find a solution to end this cycle? What would stop us from passing on the mantle to another? This may be what Aeturnus was referring to with himself mentioning the riddle to the Room of Noon, he is not just one of us, he may be all of us. He may be the culmination of all of us after a long period of passing the cloak from one person to another, hoping desperately that one of us would be able to find an alternative solution to the energy crisis.
Aeturnus' true goal is to save humanity, or else he would have simply abandoned us centuries ago. To do this, he has used his blood weapon, the Eternity Weapon to control the flow of Aetunums and use the energy provided to sate the needs of humanity. He now wishes to replicate his blood weapon, the Eternity Weapon, to either pass down his cloak to one of us, so we may attempt to find a solution to the problem. If we do not succeed, then we repeat the cycle by passing down the cloak to another. To either do that, or to have a second EW at the ready for when humanity requires more control on that floodgate. Using Aeturnus' own metaphor here, that amount of water from the floodgate may sate the entirety of the population at the time, but will it do so for all eternity? Would it not instead make more sense for him to have a person to assist him, so both of them can alternate controlling the flow? This way, there would be more control of the source of Aeturnums, and they would be able to open that floodgate just a tad bit more. But eventually, they would have to open it entirely, and that is something that the world cannot take. It would be equivalent to the village being washed away. This is why I feel that both possibilities are rather important here.
(I'll add a picture in once I get home. Skype died so I can't come on it until I'm at home D: )
