Setting
You receive a call one day from a professor studying neuroscience and biology, begging for your help. The professor is well-known and famous, so you have no idea why they would call for your help, but you answer them regardless. The professor asks you to meet them in a mansion that they own deep in the woods. You arrive at the scene and see many others who appear to have been called here for the same reason. And so begins the Soul Project.
Directives
In this season, murder and mystery will be handled a little differently. Both sides of the game will be under the influence of the Directive Mechanic. A directive is a task you can discover by examining certain items or talking to certain NPCs. Completing some directives will grant you special items, privileges, or information. Completing a specific directive will also have the effect of advancing the story along a certain path. Directives will be stated outright to a player once they have found the appropriate trigger for it, i.e. "Directive - Help the professor find a screwdriver", however, some directives will have many conditions required for their completion, and will have multiple steps associated with them, i.e. "Directive - Murder X while wearing a bear costume with a blunt weapon while at least 1 witness is watching. In trial, attempt to blame the death on a wild bear and call for a no-vote."
Players will also have the option to turn this mechanic off and on as they wish, if they want to make the game more challenging. However, directives for key story changes will always be stated once a player has found the necessary trigger(s).
Trial Changes
Trials in Season Soul will operate under the colored bullet system.
Inquisition Bullets are posted in blue. These bullets are either questions directed towards the players, or theories provoking a response. These can be used in trial to gather more information, or to accuse a suspect. Inquisition Bullets can be responded to with either Testament Bullets or Verbal Bullets. If a theory created using an Inquisition Bullet has not been denied in red or purple, the suspect stated in that theory will be eligible for vote in the conclusion. If multiple theories have not been denied, all suspects stated in those theories will be eligible for vote.
Verbal Bullets are posted in red. These bullets are pieces of truth a player can gather during investigation. In addition to finding them, a player can create their own Verbal Bullets with approval from the mastermind. A Verbal Bullet can only be created if evidence can be used to prove the bullet is valid.
Testament Bullets are posted in purple. These bullets are statements of truth that can be created by the players. Players may use these bullets to state the truth outside of evidence that has been found. Testament Bullets can also be used to deny theories created using Inquisition Bullets. However, while every innocent player must state the truth when using Testament Bullets, the culprit and their accomplice(s) may lie using Testament Bullets. These bullets cannot be found, and can only be created by the players (i.e. when giving alibis).
Flume Bullets are posted in green. These bullets are statements of truth given by the mastermind. These bullets cannot be denied, even by Verbal Bullets, and are used to outline the rules of the trials in the game (i.e. the murder could not be committed using magic).
Verbal Clash
When two Testament Bullets that are used to deny theories contradict one another, a Verbal Clash will occur. During a Verbal Clash, both suspects involved in the contradiction will create 3 Verbal Bullets using any statement that is true throughout the entire game. The other players will then use Inquisition Bullets and attempt to corner one of the two suspects by posting a theory against them. However, a single player can only post one theory during a Verbal Clash. Suspects cannot post theories, and can only respond to them using Verbal Bullets, including the ones that were previously created by them. If 3 theories are posted against a suspect, and all 3 are denied, the suspect can no longer be put under suspicion. If a suspect fails to deny a theory against them, the trial will conclude and the suspect will be executed.
Hey I thought the next season was about fighting Fedralis, what's this professor and soul nonsense?
Fedralis? When did I ever say the next season was about that guy? Leave your delusions behind and start working on the Soul Project.
