Eclipse's Tips and Tricks
I plan to go give some tips and tricks for what I consider the three main ways to participate in games. As a Mastermind. As a Murderer. Or as a Detective. Please remember these are some things I consider good tips and tricks, but unless one of you is my clone and hasn't told me, none of you are me so don't consider these as rules or anything. Think of it as a kind of advice. Time for the last piece of the puzzle, the murderer.
Murdering Tips and Tricks
Heart of Cold Steel: Don't be changed by Murder: This is one of the simplest and hardest things to do as the murderer. However you act or play prior to the murder, KEEP DOING IT after the murder. Striking someone down in this game is putting your own life on the line in game and that causes alot of tension on the killer. Its not uncommon for first time murderers to just vanish from the forum and skype and not respond to any contact right after the murder is done. Initially people will probably accept it, but as soon as you get considered a suspect everybody suddenly realizes that you are conveniently missing and everyone demands your appearance to defend yourself. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, IF YOU ARE GOING WITH THE VANISH AND NOT PARTICIPATE IN TRIAL, STICK WITH IT! If you respond to the petty taunts or appear when you are accused it looks like you were just hoping they didn't target you and now that you have been found out you have to defend yourself. Don't give anybody extra reasons to suspect you, even if OOC actions are forbidden people have suspicions and will be biased whether they want to be or not. He who changes the most is the culprit as I like to say, since they can't keep their mind straight after doing something so intense.
I AM A MURD.....DETECTIVE!: Solving your own murder: Don't be afraid to help solve your own murder! The only goal is to not be the one voted down! Even if they figure out how you did it, if they can't figure out YOU then you have it made. You can push the trial along on your own or help solve difficult conundrums in the murder. Just keep your hand close and remember, you are "guessing" how it happened, not telling them how it happened. It won't be a good argument to say you helped and aren't the culprit, but people are less likely to look on active trial players as the culprit. Its easy to execute someone who isn't participating, its harder to execute someone who is helping, just pushing in a different direction.
Engravings give no Tactical Advantage...: Murder Weapon Choice: Know about the murder weapon, specifically if there are identifying features or more than one. If there are 300 of the exact same spear, nobody is gonna try to trace the spear back to where it came from. If its the only gun in the game or a super unique katana, people will be more inclined to search where the weapon came from. In addition, getting caught with a unique weapon that is also linked to the murder is basically an instant conviction. Either hide it REALLY well or make sure there isn't a way to link it back to you. Better yet do both. There are benefits to both routes. If you use a unique weapon you tend to send some of the investigators on a goose chase after it, buying you time. Problem is it obviously can go wrong as its a BIG link to you since only one person can possess a unique item at a time. Tracing its route can be done so be careful.
The Decisive Testimony:Preventing Witnesses: If somebody SEES you commit the crime, you can kiss your life goodbye most of the time. Expect verbal bullet - YOUDUNNIT to show up and end your happiness. Take efforts to not be spotted! If you are scouting out a murder location, SEARCH IT. Make sure no one is hiding there. I cannot even begin to tell you how many murderers have, or almost have failed their murders because somebody was afked in a bush in a room and gets a pm saying they saw you do it. Check the scene as close as possible to when you plan to execute, that way there is a very minimal amount of time for people to hide there. You can try to time it in a way where you search it right after people go afk, as that's usually when people hide. Next, you need to control the victim. If they are going to survive past the initial blow, or you need to do something they might notice. If someone screams then your job just got alot harder if not impossible. Either have a plan that incorporates a scream or have a plan to prevent it, getting caught between is a bad time. Screams both lure and frighten people, so understand that a scream shifts the player base and an unpredictable player is the one who will stumble on you during the crime. You can work around that...
MASTER OF DISGUISE:Hiding your appearance: Always be on the lookout for disguises. Even if its just a bedsheet you cut up so you have a ghost costume. Someone witnessing "Someone in a ghost costume stabs Johnny" is significantly better than "Jimmy stabs Johnny." The costume will cause panic if anybody spots you while wearing it and your movement post doesn't lie[often], work with the mastermind to act while disguised. Even if someone thinks they saw your post, the only thing they have proof of is the skype message saying they saw a ghost. As another side benefit, you already plan to dispose of a disguise after a crime, so it can help alleviate dealing with blood and dirt as the disguise is already associated with the crime and it having those on them means they aren't on you. That said... A dirty costume is just like a unique weapon/item. If you are the one found carrying it after the crime you become super suspicious, yes you could claim you were framed, but that seems to not always work. Prepare it, use it, dispose of it. It makes things longer to execute, but there are some nice benefits.
The Drawing Board: Planning the Murder: This seems to vary alot between people on how they prepare for murder, though one thing is shared. Successful murderers almost always prepared beforehand. Randomly bashing someone's head in or stabbing them and walking off doesn't leave much to work with for the detectives but unplanned there are ALOT of things that can go wrong. Blood spill, stuff breaking, noise. Getting away with a murder committed on a whim is mostly luck based so try to avoid it if you can. Find a good way for you to prepare for the execution and perform. Whether that's a document or list of actions or some crazy tree of alternatives, the less you have to improvise on the fly the better. For me specifically, I prefer planning murders that I can execute in a sprint. A single rapid fast motion including the kill, the setup, and the cleanup. Prior to that single burst I tend to place every item I need on preplanned routes and try to come up with as many options as I can. "If people are at X, go to Y." That kind of thing. There isn't a whole lot of time to practice murder, so prepare as best you can!
Marked for Death: The Target: Unless you are making a trap to murder indiscriminately, you should try to pick a target. Knowing the person you going to murder can help alot over the course of things. Perhaps they will scream and run, perhaps they will be angry and turn to fight, or perhaps they carry with them a trump card. If you are attacking a player who plans alot, expect them to be carrying countermeasures to attacks. If you are attacking a murderer, be prepared to have them try to kill you too. If you set up the murder but they take the kill, its an easy getaway. If you are attacking a detective, expect them to flee or call for assistance or try to cause you to leave more evidence than you may have wanted too. Also, if you think someone has an item or SHSL ability that would prevent your attack then you need to change targets or adjust the plan. If a coin flip causes you to miss the initial killing blow or they are wearing body armor, you have to have the backup plan or the hunter may become the hunted.
Frenemies: Making Friends and Making Enemies: As a murderer, you really don't want to die in trial so don't piss off people needlessly. Its not uncommon to see a disliked character or figure get executed when the murderer can't be determined. You will piss off someone, you just will, just make sure you don't piss off the majority.
There are definitely more tips, but if for now this is a nice start. If you have your own hints feel free to post them below.
