Hello Everyone,
This is Eclipse as the head administrator of the site. I just finished cleaning up the upcoming seasons board of a number of seasons that are showing a startling lack of progress. I am rather tired of me going to check the progress of the season that was applied for more than 5 months ago and has had a board for most of that time and that season has a startling small amount of threads. Usually under 10 threads. This is in comparison to some more recent season season apps that are less than a month old, but already double, triple, hell one is six times as many threads as these half a year old boards. These people are making a visible effort for their season's production and its easy for me to see from the administrator and security logs that I monitor. Allow me to clear up what I expect from my masterminds.
Mastermind Expectations
The following section will list a number of things I EXPECT from my masterminds. I won't necessarily say they are requirements, we all have our own lives and I can't expect you to put that aside for this. However, applying to be a mastermind and to host a season means accepting these expectations at least until you are finished hosting and masterminding.
1. Mastermind Activity: Masterminds are expected to be active members of the community. If you can't be bothered to log onto the site and at least check up on things every once in a while how can you be trusted to set a strict day by day schedule to host a season. Its really frustrating to see someone who applied to host, then got a board for themselves, but hasn't signed on in the past three months. If you don't want to be all chatty and social, that's fine. I am not judging anyone on their social skills, merely that you are still on the site and expressing interest in being a mastermind. Not signing onto the site until I pm you personally telling you your season is late is disrespectful to me and all the players who want to play your season. Masterminds are expected to be a part of this community, that's it.
2. Mastermind Progress: Ok, you applied for your season and it got accepted, yay! Maybe you even convinced Eclipse to let you to jump to 2 star mastermind for the season since you are just so dedicated to making it happen. So, why is it that the board has been there for a month with no progress? I could understand going a week or two, maybe even three if you were focused on another season that was running, but multiple months with ZERO progress on the forum board. Many people respond with the fact that they have been making stuff in their documents on their computers and not on the forums. Ok, then you shouldn't have requested a board in the upcoming seasons section as you obviously weren't ready to get rolling. At a BARE minimum I expect you to show up and tell me why in the world you can't make progress. If your laptop got stolen and you legit can't even get on skype, then its fine. It happens, but you have to keep me in the loop. Otherwise it just looks like you gave up on the project and vanished from the forum. Assuming you do not have a legitimate reason to be unable to get on the site, I expect people to make progress towards their season once it is on the boards. No, this doesn't mean one thread a month, this means you have been filling out room descriptions, fleshing out the map, linking rooms. You want to be lazy and have a bunch of empty boards for when you feel like making that map? Become a three star mastermind! I give out boards to those people and I don't bother them at all about what kind of season or game related stuff they put there. I will be instituting a more rigorous checking system for season production which will be explained after this list.
3. Mastermind Models: I expect the masterminds to be role models on the site, following the rules and making sure people are having a good time. Masterminds being unkind and disrespectful puts the entire site in a bad light and you of all people should understand that responsibility. No you can't completely side step the rules. Don't just ignore them or expect me to just let things slide when you do so. Understand that if you guys break the rules I really can't let you walk off without punishment since that sets a poor example to the players who also have to follow those rules. Short section, but just keep it in mind that I expect masterminds to be my star members of the site. If you do something that is an abuse of power then expect me to ban you so fast you won't even have time to say goodbye. I know if I have to do something like that everybody is gonna end up hating me for it, but that's my job as the rule guy. Please don't put me in that kind of position.
New Checkup Practices
With these three expectations in mind, I am going to state below some altered ways I will be monitoring progress and keeping track of my masterminds.
1. More Strict Season Board Checkups: In between EVERY season I will go through the upcoming seasons board. There are two outcomes to this event for each board there. A. I approve of it and let it continue to remain on the upcoming seasons board or B. I deem progress as unsatisfactory and hide the season elsewhere on the forum. I will not be stating a strict number on the threads that equal "acceptable progress." If I had to state it, then I expect newer games to have more progress as games that are already heavily worked on likely are working on final details or are finished and waiting on their turn to host. If your season has been on the board an excessive amount of time, multiple months and I am worried about your progress then I will look up the passwords I stored for you and go read through all your threads to REALLY check up on progress. If I am forced to go this far then I will abstain from joining the season as a player if it is every hosted. My role in managing the forum is more important to me than one game. I also will not be warning players that I will be hiding there seasons. I just will hide them and then tell them that I did so.
2. Mastermind Consequences: I expect masterminds to be active and progressive. So here is the deal. If you haven't been on the forum for more than a month and you are tier 1 or tier 2 mastermind then I will hide your mastermind file and any season boards you are responsible for. You can get these back by returning and actually hosting the season. However, if I have to remove any one season from the upcoming seasons board more than once then the mastermind in question will have their mastermind rank reduced by 1. If this means you lose rights to host that season, then you can no longer host it until you regain the rank you lost. If you are reduced to tier 0 mastermind then I will give you one more chance. A Tier 0 Mastermind can host tier 1 games and the like. However, if I have to remove them again due to a lack of progress or they host a season that is considered a failure then that person is hereby banned from masterminding. This has no time limit. This is a ban from hosting on MMG for all time. May I never ever have to do this to someone.
That is the Eclipse Rant this time for all those who read it. I apologize to players whom this may not concern, but this is an important issue on the site so it needs to be addressed. Thank you all for your time.
