Vindr's Journal:
Page 1:
Today is the first day of the rest of my life. My family has always just held me back and been a shame upon our family. Even they understand that since they gave me the family heirloom that we have been passing down since the time of energy deprivation. I will carry it always and remember what it means to be one of my family and I will not lose my way. For that purpose I shall write the words that drove me away from my home, so that should I question my actions and return to my journal to see if it was all worth it I will see that which changed me and helped me make my decision.
"You are just like your ancestor and you shall suffer her fate should you continue on this path of obsession. Control yourself Vindr Stein, lest you vanish from the face of this world like your ancestor"
Page 2:
The Pendant that has been handed down by my family for generations. Apparently it was made by a great great aunt of mine upon realizing what they truly desired. The pendant has two engravings on it. A image of a man engrossed in a book and the family name on the back. The image represents the pursuit of obsession, the journey to obtain that which you desire ignoring everything else. I have inherited that obsession and been the black sheep of my family. It is the other way around though! I am the only normal sheep and have simply been born amongst a generation of black sheep!
Page 3:
I have been writing about how I have inherited the obsession that is my birthright, yet I haven't mentioned what it is I obsess over. I guess to me its just like eating and drinking to pursue it so it never crossed my mind as something I would want to write down. I am possessed by an incredible wanderlust. Not just any old wanderlust though. I have the desire to explore the entire world and not just its physical self. I want to explore its history and learn everything. To me the book in the engraving is a history book.
Page 4:
I am going to start with the words that sent me off and discover the secret of those words. My ancestor who mysteriously "vanished" from the face of the earth. I will discover the truth of the one who first made the pendant and their obsession. My true family left behind a mystery just for me and I will solve it completely.
Page 5:
Considering the fact that my ancestor supposedly disappeared from the earth, I had thought finding the first trace of them would be hardest. I had thought I would need to dig through ancient birth records or something to find mention of her. Never did I suspect her to have been an important person in history! I don't understand how a well-respected scientist could have just up and vanished, especially considering who they were....
Page 6:
I understand now what my grandmother meant by "vanished." I cannot find any words to describe it better. One day they are making an incredible scientific discovery and the next they are gone. She just ceases any and all appearances in history books and no other documents relating to her appear after that point. She vanished just after the discovery of Aeturnums and with 700 years gone by there just isn't anybody to talk to about it.
Page 7:
A rumor brings me a small chance to continue in my research. A rumor that seems ridiculous to believe, but would be a blessing for my search. As I write this I ponder how I will word my letter requesting assistance. How do you ask a man if he is actually a 700 year old and has not died based on a rumor? Even if the rumor turns out to be false at least I might be able to get access to the infamous scientific records of Aeturnus.
Page 8:
Nothing can describe the shock I feel now, not only did Aeturnus reply to my message; He tells me he wants to HELP in my research. Apparently he knew them personally and was not able to locate them years ago when they first vanished. Now this is what I was waiting for, a challenge that not even the legendary Aeturnus could perform. I can barely contain my excitement as I write this. As soon as I finish writing I pack up to go meet the man in person and discuss what we know. The truth won't be able to hide from me much longer!
Page 9:
I write now after having met face to face with Aeturnus and let me say he is as imposing as the history books paint him. His employees weren't very talkative people though. The red-garbed man who showed me in was probably the only one and he was just complaining about his job. That in stark contrast to the red haired lady who just stood behind Aeturnus's shoulder the entire time we talked and didn't say a word. Strange people aside, I found a new trail to follow in my search. A series of letters with my ancestor on one end. Time to go to work.
Page 10:
The letters were interesting to say the least. The first few were the only ones I could understand though. Only a genius would have been able to understand what those two were discussing in those later letters. My ancestor puts the rest of us to shame in terms of scientific capability, even Aeturnus agreed! Although I am very worried now. Aeturnus left me with a warning that I am only now truly seeing its weight. I can only hope his worry is unfounded, which it isn't.
Page 11:
Following a paper trail is much more boring than detective shows make it seem. This address points here and then there followed by an abrupt turn around and some more paperwork. The slow emthodical job fo digging through paperwork has given me plenty of time to wonder. His warning was about finding my ancestor. The first bit was simply that I shouldn't expect to find them alive, especially considering the 700+ years between when she vanished, and Aeturnus assure me that at that point even he barely understood his own eternal state. The second warning was that the secret lab had been working on something that could match the Aeturnums which means in all likelihood it was dangerous. It didn't take a genius to put two and two together. What Aeturnus really meant was "Don't let what killed her, kill you."
Page 12:
At last! Something that might lead me to the correct location! I have been putting together the paths of these letters for so long now that it is hard to believe I might have found the end. A mysterious drop off point south of a huge mountain. I aim to go pack all my belongings and prepare for the hike as soon as I finish writing. This is it! I finally found you!
Page 13:
Perhaps I was a bit too exciteable in my last entry, regardless now I sit on a tree stump that I found at the end of my journey. This has to be the place, I even found some scraps of paper that the letters were written on preserved in amber. I dread the possibility that the letters were taken from here on another goose chase. Unlike before there would be no paper trail of someone just walking up and grabbing the letter. It would just vanish from the books. I see something interesting off in the distance, might as well go take a look.
Page 14:
*Scribbled haphazardly, like the author isn't really paying attention*
what in the? how could this? wow. Is this...? holy.... This has to be it! yes!
Page 15:
Not even the most brutal of my nightmares could have prepared me for this. I...I could not even have imagined the scale of what happened here, or...perhaps I can. I am going to have nightmares for a long time. I am having a hard time accepting that I am still alive and was not killed. Fate is cruel indeed... I have not yet learned the whole story though so here I shall remain grasping onto my now fleeting sanity. I cannot leave until I fully understand the history of this place, my obsession, my blood demands it of me.
Page 16:
And now I understand the full story, now I understand what happened to my ancestor in this place. The one who was my true family suffered so at their hands. I have only felt my obsession grab hold of me and drive my very actions, but now I feel something very different. Rage roars within me and I cannot...will not hold it back. I am going to strike with vengeance and ease her suffering. I...I cannot regret my decision here or I won't be able to live. I will take two things from this place, but I must leave any regret behind.
Page 17:
I am once again sitting on the tree stump getting ready for my next move and making plans. It will take a long time to prepare, but once everything is finished I should last for quite a while before I need to improvise. I will have to construct several facilities in these plains and the wilderness nearby, but it shouldn't be too difficult. The money Aeternus gave me to use in my chase seems almost as bottomless as the Aeturnums. I cannot fail...
Page 18:
I have managed to secure a large supply of wooden goods cheaply and quietly. I have marked out locations where I can leave them to be "triggered" when I need them. Most of my facilities are hidden, albeit not from any diligent search. I tried not to clutter them too much and hid one in each of the biomes, except the mountain. I won't be able to take more than the bare minimum with me when I go to set my plan in action.
Page 19:
This is my final entry. I write this already suited up to head to the top of the mountain and begin. I carry with me the two things I obtained from solving the mystery of my ancestor. My obsession will be sated, my desires fulfilled as I embark on this adventure for vengeance. Will I find a new journal or record my tale in other ways? It is unlikely, for I am fulfilling my Grandmother's warning and vanishing from the face of the earth just like my ancestor. Unlike my ancestor who vanished behind secrets and paper, I shall truly vanish as if the very wind just blew me away...
