The ash near the lake has since lost its usual dull gray color, and has instead formed layers of black and brown sediment, creating a stripped surface that grows smoother and more stone-like the closer you venture to the lava. As you make your way to the back end of the lake, the sediment gradually rises, forming a miniature mountain of ash. Then the beach gives way to a river of lava, where the excess lava from the lake flows out into the lava ocean around the island. There appears to be no path that goes across the lava river, nor any path that goes around the ash mountain, so you are forced to go back. Go Back
